We invite you to discover the thrill of sport caving in an exceptional setting: Fountarrasse Cave, located near the village of Lus-la-Croix-Haute, approximately 40 minutes from Gap and 50 minutes from Sisteron. This iconic site in the Hautes-Alpes is perfect for an introduction to vertical caving, ideal for curious explorers eager to venture beyond a simple underground discovery.
A Vertical and Aquatic Adventure
After a short walk through the surrounding countryside, we reach the cave entrance and step into a fascinating underground world. Accompanied by a state-certified professional guide, you will learn rope techniques, including abseiling and ascending fixed ropes, in a safe and friendly environment.
The route begins with two impressive vertical shafts, each around 10 metres deep, where you will experience the unique sensation of suspended movement between the sky and the rock. You will then make your way along fixed safety ropes above an underground river before reaching the terminal sump — a crystal-clear pool where we will take a well-deserved break for a picnic.
The return journey involves ascending the ropes, giving you the opportunity to put your newly acquired skills into practice and experience the full enjoyment of this rewarding activity, combining technical challenges, exploration and teamwork.
