Description

The actual building has been started by the Mine Company for having a cinema place. It will be converted in cult place in 1931. This transformation will be done by the miners.

A chapel was existed before the construction of this one in the center of the hamlet of Villaret (written in a document of 1660), re-built in 1735 but then disappear. The chapel appears on the map of Cassini published in 1779. The bell, the altar and the cross are coming from the old chapel of the Merlins. At the end of the 1920's, the need of a cult place for a growing population attracted by the mine (migrants from Poland, Italy...) make it feels. The building became the chapel of Notre Dame des Neiges, it will be ceased to the Diocèse of Grenoble in 1965.
In 2007, the building is in an advance state of disrepair. The diocèse decide then to entrust the chapel to a collective of artists whose goal is to develop in this place the fantasy and imaginary, to transformate it as an exhibition venue and collective events. The funds raised are used to the restoration of the building with collaborative site.
A cross coming from the chapel of Merlins is installed in front of the Chapel, this cross bear a latin inscription : VICULUM TEGAM which can be translate by "the cross protects the village".
