The Himalayan footbridges, must-see in Matheysine… 2 stunning bridges hunged over the lake of Monteynard, with a breath-taking view. Hike of the footbridges, tour of the footbridge of Drac, or just a few step to overlook the vast stretch of water : everyone will find his way to visit the footbridges.
The Himalayan footbridges of lake Monteynard are a unique site in Europe. 220m and 180m long, the footbridges of Drac and Ebron overlook the lake from 45 to 85m high, depending on the water level.
As vertiginious as discreet, they open splendid viewpoints on the lake and surroundings.
Hikers or mountain bikers can join Matheysine to Trièves or go around the footbridges by a spectacular and unfamiliar path, punctuated by wonderful viewpoints. It’s also possible to walk to one of the footbridges (about 1h30 walk) just for a little rush of adrenaline.

The tour around the footbridges is a sportive but accessible stroll on foot or by bike, crossing the lake by boat La Mira and the footbridges. The walk is 12.5km long and 400m high and lasts for about 4h30 (2h30 by bike). Wear good walking shoes and bring water (no watering place on the course).
From Mayres savel, take the boat La Mira (price of the crossing 6€, booking advisable by calling +33 476 341 456 – Start of the walk from Treffort, to the footbridge of Ebron.
Be careful, the boat does not work all year round. Inquire before starting !
Another shorter tour is possible: the footbridge of Drac, starting from Savel’s beach and lasting for 2h. Ideal for a family stroll!
You can reach and cross easily the footbridge of Drac in 20 minutes on foot from one of the car parks along the road, going down Savel’s beach.
Every year, in July, thousands of runners participate to the inescapable Trail of the footbridges. 8 trials from 1 to 65km long, including a Vertical Kilometre, cross the footbridges, to add adrenaline to effort! A walk and a mini trail for children are also organised to make passionates of nature happy, to each their own level.
